The Weekly December 16

Market wrap

Word on the street is that 2023 might see a lift in Aussie house prices if we don’t experience more interest rate rises, and at the same time, feel that sweet sweet drop in inflation. Looking at Sydney specifically, that change to stamp duty we spoke about the other week, the increase in migration, the end of WFH for the majority and rental shortages may help the property market come back a little quicker than expected according to experts. Read more here.

It’s all happening!

Argentina is in the final, it’s snowing in Jindabyne and your in-laws (or outlaws as we like to call them) are coming to town. Good news or bad news, only you can be the judge. So fluff your pillows, put out the Aesop and make up the spare bed (in Ecodownunder linens, naturally).  It’s the annual family pilgrimage, bringing everyone together under one roof, your roof, to salut the year that was and ring in 2023. Ways to make your place feel like a home away from home? The bedside table is a great place to start. A few current mags or books, a scented Palm Beach Collection candle (Summer Spritz? Mango Meringue?) and a vase of fresh Haven & Sarah flowers will do the trick. Fluffy towels at the end of the bed. Oh and don’t forget to stock the fridge…

Go Local: The Shores Christmas Gift Guide 2022

We’ve created a gift guide! Called ‘Go Local’, it’s our curated picks of the greatest gifts going around for him, her, the little ones and all the rest. From the best in books, to the coolest pair of rollerskates and one very eye-catching set of amber glass tumblers, it’s all you need to finish off the Christmas list and only a hop, skip and a jump from home, no shipping cut-off dates required. Have a browse here!

If you haven’t already had the pleasure, Bar Elvina’s got some very fun and festive things on the calendar right now to either kick off your silly season or keep it going! Happy hour sees $3 oysters, $8 Garden G&Ts, $6 tap beers and more on the sundowner hour menu from Wednesday through to Friday 4-6pm. And Sundays now have a very holiday vibe to them thanks to a seafood extravaganza – think platters, beer battered fish & chips, buckets of prawns, grilled occy and more every Sunday 12-10pm. Don’t mind if we do.

And they’re not the only ones to commence their summer glow up. Alma, the purveyors of incredible coastal Mexican inspired fare and killer margaritas, has a brand-spanking new menu! What caught our eye? Beef cheeks chichilo mole, the scallops crudo and one spectacular looking Pavola De Fruitas. Wash it down with a smoky Coastal Sour and you’ll be transported straight to Todos Santos without leaving town.

Who doesn’t love a mid-week activity to shake up the Mon-Fri? Our pick is The Newport’s Surf-In Cinema every Wednesday night this summer. Grab a pizza (the best base going around, no?), a wine and watch a surf movie on the outdoor deck from 8pm. Like the drive-through but with a much better snack bar. PSA: We are taking some time off over the holidays for some much needed RNR. We’ll be OOO from Dec 22 – Jan 9th besides a few little email check-ins and by-appointment inspections. So if you are aiming to sell in early 2023, call us before the break so we can put the initial wheels in motion. It generally takes a few weeks for a property to be listed, sold, and settlement is usually a couple of months after that. We would love to help. Request a market appraisal here!
