The Weekly March 10 2023

Goodbye, old friend

We were so sad to see Leonardo’s Deli close its laneway doors on Wednesday. The vibrant energy, live music and unrivaled charcuterie it brought to Avalon’s nightlife (not to mention the owners huge smiles and warm hugs) since 2021 will be incredibly missed. Thank you for injecting a vibe! A zing! And a very quaffable list of vino to the village! Salut Nic and Michelle, you’ve set the standards sky high. We’ll be keeping a keen eye on who snaps this gem up and once again lights up the laneaway. To fill the void of live tunes and good food this weekend? Don’t forget to pack your picnic rug and head down to the Avalon Golf Club for the Tothy Bros Kitchen Pop Up and Closest to the Pin Competition from 3pm this Saturday. See you there!

Market wrap

If your home is about to go under the hammer, you’ll be very happy to hear Sydney’s auction clearance rates are the highest they’ve been since October 2021, hitting 69 per cent according to Domain. While the start of the year is always strong, it’s a welcomed ray of sunshine for vendors going under the hammer or looking to sell. While the latest rate hike (final number 10 we hope?) and the potential increase in properties on the market are factors said to slow it down, it’s not there yet. Thinking of selling? Get an appraisal with us today. And speaking of homes for sale, have you fixed your eyes on this sun-drenched north facing Bilgola Plateau home sitting pretty overlooking Newport on 1200sqm? Take a squiz. We can see you on that balcony.

What’s on

We’re probably preaching to the converted but did you know it’s Margarita Month? The talented folks at Boathouse Group are doing god’s work by celebrating all March long and we are not worthy. They’ve partnered with Patrón Tequila (the only acceptable tequila to shot past your 30s) to create a bespoke cocktail menu for $16 a pop. And they’re not the only ones, we also spy Alma offering top shelf with every tequila bev on their menu until March 31. Summer isn’t over after all.

Following on from our conversation a few weeks ago about reducing energy consumption in your home, the Northern Beaches Council are hosting a very timely, free online event all about solar energy as part of their Charge Ahead program! From installing solar, to getting the maximum savings if you’re already an adopter, as well as moving away from gas all together, it’s the perfect no-question-is-a-stupid-one seminar for the sustainably minded. The things that excite you these days, huh? Book your free seat here.

Chasing the high that was #IWD2023 on Wednesday? Then cancel your plans this weekend. If you haven’t already snaffled tickets to All About Women at the Sydney Opera House, you better be quick. In its 11th year, this thought-provoking program at our stunning harbour icon hosts a raft of extraordinary thinkers in discussion about gender, justice and equality. With the likes of activist Grace Tame, writer Clementine Ford and cultural figure Wendy Whiteley to name a few, it’s going to be mind-blowing. And there’s only a couple of sessions left! Can’t nab the ticket you want? You can book a livestream. Genius!
