Loving Laneway Life and Christmas

As we hurtle towards Christmas, there are still a few listings in Santa’s bag!
Stats show that the market has continued to run hard and fast right through to the end of November. And we’re still going strong, albeit at a slightly more relaxed pace. Interestingly, as things ease up for Christmas, a new buyer group has re-emerged – the property investor!

The stats support our experience pointing to a return to the market of property investors, who having stayed largely on the sidelines while prices have risen by up to 30% – but now they’re back, demonstrating on-going confidence in the strength of the market.

The team at the RBA maintained record low rates this month – making it a 13 month straight run. Recent uncertainty on the sustainability of the economic recovery from Covid, and the rise of the new Omicron strain, will be weighing on their minds.

The re-emergence of investors in our market coincides with the return of international students, who all need to be accommodated while they alleviate some of the staffing pressures in hospitality. So, with new buyer groups emerging and the return of the ex-pat…hold of to your hats for 2022!

And whats on? This weekend, the delayed Pittwater Christmas Market is happening tomorrow (Saturday Dec 11) at Winnererremy Bay Park in Mona St in Mona Vale…

And we tried out the new deli/bar, Leonardo’s, in Simmonds Lane in Avalon during the week. Gorgeous owners, great food (and wine!) and a very cool (warm) ambiance. We’d highly recommend it.
We’re already spoilt for eating and drinking options, but I love the idea of a ‘laneway’ culture picking up in Avalon…there are a surprising number of them, and it would be great to see them thrive!

On that subject; it appears that the controversial development on our existing ‘lane way’ at the opening to Robertson Road in Newport is proceeding to DA. If successful, this will seriously affect this great spot and foodie haven. We need to be really protective of these little by-ways that so perfectly capture the charm and joy of our lifestyle here on The Beaches. Do we really want more glass and concrete?!

Robertson Road Newport

If you’re not already aware of it, look at ‘Save Robertson Road’ on Facebook. Local Simon Barlow has been active in defending this resource. We’ve just had local elections…time for Councillors to act for the community they represent. And for the rest of us to let our feelings be known. We don’t need to be anti-development, but we must ask for the right kind of development.
Send your email to planningpanels@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au and pittwater@parliament.nsw.gov.au. Quote: DA2020/1756. You’ve got until Monday 13 December 12pm, to make your feelings known.

If you haven’t been to Robertson Road lately – run don’t walk – it’s gorgeous! Lots of creative Christmas gifts to inspire and delight you.

And we’ve got some of the best listings of the year on offer this weekend
